Not a Fairy Tale
You
You're my walled retreat
My apple orchard
My secret garden
You have your secrets too
But they don't hang between us,
Unspoken,
Like cobwebs in the garden shed
There are no perennials
In this bed
No forget-me-nots underfoot
Or bleeding heart
Crawling up the fence
No red roses
And no suspense
No promises
Whispered under weeping willow trees
Because there's no weeping here
No tears
You lie under my bony elbow
And I taste the sweat on your brow
Sweet, like appleseeds
Not forever
But for now
