Radish Bolt

Shortly after I blogged about not knowing exactly what bolting meant, or how to look for it, all my radishes bolted. The heat wave was over but it had done its work and tough long stalks with small flowers appeared.

That's okay - we still got a great harvest of radishes, and every last one that developed was eaten. The ones that bolted (at least half) ended up in the compost. I had vague ideas of letting one or more go to seed, but given how easy it is to sow and grow radishes, it didn't seemed worth the effort.

Since then, most of my mesclun mix has bolted as well. It's still in the garden, straggly. I'm not sure why I haven't pulled it out yet, but I sort of like the look of it. Luckily plenty of other greens are ready for harvest. We have more than enough for a nightly salad.
